In this workshop, you'll learn the foundations of modern humanist lettering using tools you may already have on hand, such as ordinary pens, pencils, gel pens, or other everyday writing instruments. Through a clear, step-by-step approach, we'll explore the small number of basic elements that serve as the building blocks for this lettering style.
Using those elements, we'll work through the construction of each letter of the alphabet, allowing you to see how the entire style grows from a few simple forms.
You'll learn:
The key characteristics of modern humanist lettering
The fundamental building blocks used to create the style
How to construct each letter of the alphabet step by step
Techniques for achieving consistency and balance
Ideas for enhancing and adding color to your letters
This style of lettering is delightful to use for names on envelopes and cards, titles and special captions in journaling and scrapbooking, and any other words you want to dress up without any major fuss.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced calligraphers interested in exploring a different approach to lettering.
For those who wish to continue, these foundational skills can later be expanded through more comprehensive study that explores additional outlined lettering styles created with the same accessible tools and techniques.
WHO: This workshop is designed for adults and mature adolescents.
